Africa Confidential Claims Zambia Is Owing Close To $20bn

In its latest edition, it has noted that its investigations revealed that Zambia’s external and domestic debt could end the year at 80 per cent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product or $20 billion.

The AC stated that ministers had admitted that $3 billion of Eurobonds would need to be refinanced by 2019.

It stated that information in its possession had showed that the government was in negotiations with Japanese fund Nomura International for an urgent $500 million loan.
