6. Moeraki Boulders, Dunedin
Another of New Zealand’s amazing natural rock formations, the Moeraki Boulders can be found on the east coast of the South Island just north of Dunedin. These magical spherical boulders are around 60 million years old and you will find them scattered all along Koekohe Beach.
The Moeraki Boulders are steeped in Maori legend and their history is quite mysterious. From Maori legend to geology, the history of how they came to be is open to interpretation. All we know is that they are super cool and you should add them to your list of natural wonders to see in New Zealand.
